What does Malibu add to the El Caribeño? To us, the Malibu Original adds a sweet and tropical taste to the coconut water, which can sometimes be a little bland on its own. Since it also has a lower ABV than some other spirits, Malibu also gives the cocktail a smoother taste.

Is coconut water the same as coconut milk? Nope! It’s easy to mix up, coconut water is the clear liquid inside of a coconut when it’s opened, and coconut milk is made from the ‘meat’ of the coconut.

Can I adjust this El Caribeño recipe to be a stronger ABV? Of course! Malibu has a relatively low ABV, so for a stronger drink, we suggest reducing the quantity of Malibu Original by half and substituting the other half with your favorite white rum.
