Tools you'll need
Jigger or Measuring Tool
This is for measuring the exact amounts of ingredients. If you don’t have one, our tip is to use a shot glass or a table spoon to measure instead.
Blender
This is essential for combining the Malibu, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and strawberries into a smooth frozen texture in just 10 seconds. If you don’t have a blender, you can use a food processor, although the consistency may be slightly less creamy.
Knife and Cutting Board
You’ll need these to prepare your strawberries. Cutting the fruit into smaller pieces also helps it blend more smoothly.
Hurricane or Highball Glass
These glasses are ideal for serving this drink and showing off its vibrant colour and texture. Any tall glass will work if you don’t have these specific styles.
Our top tips for making the strawberry colada
Use frozen fruit for a thicker consistency
Swap fresh fruit for frozen strawberries to create a thicker, frostier Strawberry Colada without watering it down. This keeps your frozen white rum cocktail rich in flavour and perfectly chilled.
Balance sweet and citrus flavours
The cream of coconut and pineapple juice bring sweetness, so add a squeeze of fresh lime juice to brighten the drink and balance the flavours. Adjust the citrus to taste for a perfectly balanced tropical cocktail.
Chill your glass before serving
Place your hurricane or highball glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes before pouring. A chilled glass keeps your Malibu cocktail colder for longer and enhances the overall drinking experience.
Create a layered frozen effect
Blend half the mixture with strawberries and the other half with raspberries, then pour slowly to create a subtle layered look. This adds visual interest and gives each sip a slightly different flavour profile. Yum!
Mist the glass with coconut water
Spray or lightly brush coconut water inside the glass before pouring your drink to amplify tropical notes and aroma. This subtle step pairs beautifully with the Malibu and creates a more layered drinking experience.

about the strawberry colada
The Strawberry Colada is a creamy, fruit-forward twist on the classic Piña Colada, blending ripe strawberries with pineapple juice and coconut for a smooth, chilled serve. The natural sweetness of the fruit pairs beautifully with the soft coconut notes of Malibu Original, creating a balanced frozen cocktail that’s both vibrant and easy to drink. With just a handful of ingredients and a quick blend, this recipe is ideal for summer gatherings, garden parties or relaxed evenings when you want something chilled and tropical without the fuss.
Strawberry Colada or Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri – what’s the difference?
While both cocktails celebrate fresh strawberries, their base spirits and flavour profiles set them apart. The classic Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri typically combines white rum, lime juice and sugar syrup for a sharper, citrus-led drink with a lighter texture. The Strawberry Colada, however, leans into creamy coconut and pineapple flavours, enhanced by the distinct coconut character of Malibu Original. The result is a richer, smoother frozen cocktail that feels indulgent yet refreshingly tasty, offering a tropical variation on a well-loved favourite.

Using cream of coconut and frozen fruit helps achieve a rich, creamy texture. You can also add a small scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra-indulgent version.
-
For the best texture and flavour, we recommended to blend and serve immediately. You can prep the fruit and measure the liquids ahead of time, but avoid blending too early as the ice will melt and dilute the drink.
-
Yes! Replace the Malibu Original with coconut water or tropical fruit juice to enjoy a creamy, fruity mocktail version of this frozen, white rum cocktail.
-
Adjust sweetness by adding more or less pineapple juice, cream of coconut, or fruit. A splash of lime juice can also balance the flavours for a perfectly refreshingly tasty Strawberry Colada.
