Don’t Drink
and Dive
is back with a winter message for the nation
Did you know that 1 in 4 winter drownings involve alcohol?
As part of our commitment to responsible drinking, we’ve partnered with Royal Life Saving Society UK and Olympic diver (and knitter extraordinaire) Tom Daley to highlight the risks of drinking and entering the water.
To spread the message, we’ve launched a fab jumper with one clear reminder:

DID YOU KNOW…
More than 1 in 4 drownings in the UK involve alcohol.
73% of winter drownings occur inland, e.g. in rivers, and canals.
9 in 10 of winter drownings occur when the person didn’t intend to be in the water.
If you’ve been drinking alcohol, keep your fine self out of the water. Remember to always visit a lifeguarded venue and remember to follow the water safety code:
If you’ve been sipping, don’t go dipping! If you’ve been drinking alcohol, stay away from the water. Plan a safe route home, away from water, before you head out.
Never get in the water or walk home alone after drinking alcohol: it’s way less fun, and far more dangerous.
In an emergency, call 999 immediately! Never enter the water to rescue someone else.
If you’re in trouble: stay calm, float on your back, and keep shouting for help! If you see anyone in trouble in the water, throw something in that floats to help them.
